Congratulations to Elena Ravano, Ian Foley, Kristen Mapes, Emily Menaurd, Giulia Lorenzini, and Ottavia Criss, the new board members of John Cabot University’s Model United Nations Society. There positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Fundraising Chair, Treasurer, and Press Secretary, respectively.
The board meets each Tuesday to discuss everything from upcoming fund-raising events, plus setting new agenda items.
Currently, MUN Society is working on an official charter that will describe its mission, detail how it will function, and outlining a selection process for new members. The writing of the charter is being taken on by board members, however all members will vote on major decisions and a completed charter will hopefully be established by the end of the semester.
The MUN Society would also like to thank the Department of Political and Social Sciences for their contribution to the MUN funds and help with planning future events.
With this contribution, Fundraising Chair Emily Menaurd, with the consent of all members, has decided to host a Poker Night the evening of April 8 in the Lemon Tree Courtyard. This event will involve a competition among poker players, snacks, prizes…in short, a good time. All poker players are encouraged to attend as well as those who just want to watch, play other card games, and eat snacks while chatting with fellow students.
JCU's Model United Nations Society Faculty Advisor Professor Pamela Harris said, “We finally have an infrastructure to handle all the organization details and we are an official institution at the university and are laying the groundwork to be self-perpetuating…now we can devote our energy to getting ready for debate in order to become world class diplomats.”
As all of these transformations fall into place, we can expect great things from the MUN Society this semester and for semesters to come.
