Rome, Oct. 7 – Laura Delli Ficorelli, John Cabut University's new Career Services Coordinator, wants to restructure the department to better reflect student demands.
There will be more opportunities for students studying the arts, humanities, English and communications, the 34-year-old Delli Ficorelli says.
Increasing the quality and quantity of companies offering internships is her next goal. Delli Ficorelli is getting in touch with big multinationals and focusing on internships abroad.
To
raise the level of awareness of Career Services among students,
Delli Ficorelli is planning several workshops dealing with interviews
tips, CV and cover letter writing. This material will constitute a career
portfolio that Delli Ficorelli will present at the November Career Week.
Another important service for the students who have special needs is the one-to-one career counseling sessions; Career Services offer an Attitudes and Competences Diagnosis based on testing and interviews.
Delli
Ficorelli sees herself as a bridge between academia and the business world.
She has specialized in human resources management and career counseling and worked as the recruiting and training specialist for the SORIN s.p.a, a bio-tech multinational based in Milan.
With a degree in linguistics and psychology from Essex Uuniversity, Delli Ficorelli earned a master in teaching English as a second language. Before switching into the HR field, she earned a a degree in scienze della formazione from the University of Roma 3. She had also been academic coordinator at major institutions in Rome and Scotland.
When
The Matthew asked her how she finds working at JCU,
she confessed it is a bit weird, coming from a corporate background. But she likes it because everything is “familiar,” she said.
“ I feel welcomed”, she added.
What
is the ideal graduate, according to Delli Ficorelli? He or she is enthusiastic,
willing to do many tasks and is capable of working within a team.
“A degree is not enough,” she said,“ it is important to have something to offer directly from the own personality.”
“The first job students go for will not be the job for life. But it will be important to figure out things of themselves. Different jobs,” she concluded, “help to achieve competences and be fully professionally prepared at the end”.
