ROME 25 Sept. — Filmitalia’s presentation of “La Meglio Gioventù” (The Best of Youth) film series had a successful start on Monday with the independent film “Lacapagira” directed by Alessandro Piva. It is one of seven films that will be screened every month in the Aula Magna auditorium at John Cabot University.
Filmitalia is a company that aims to promote Italian cinema abroad. It hopes to widen the
role Italian cinema plays in the global audiovisual market.
The company works with all of the major international film festivals
including those in Cannes, London, and New York.
The Best of Youth film series consists of a selection of first feature films made by young Italian directors, dating from 2000 to today. The series is presented by Filmitalia in collaboration with the film critic Fabio Ferzetti. Each film depicts stories of Italy through the lens of one generation of directors.
Filmitalia president Irene Bignardi introduced the series on Monday saying, “the idea is to show how
you can make a good film even if it’s your first.”
According to the University
president, Franco Pavoncello, John Cabot University was chosen to host seven films in the series because of its role as an American University with ties to Italy, Europe, and the United States.
The night started with a reception,
where students and guests were able to converse with Piva and the actors
portraying the two main protagonists of the film, Dino Abbrescia and
Paolo Sassanelli. This was followed by the screening in front of a packed auditorium.
After the screening was a Q&A session with Piva, Abbrescia, and Sassanelli.
There are six
films still yet to be screened. They are:
“Almost Blue” by Alex Infascelli;
“Giorni” by Laura Muscardin; “I Nostril Anni” by Daniele Gaglianone;
“L’uomo in Più” by Paolo Sorrentino; “Velocità Massima”
by Daniele Vicari; and “Private” by Saverio Costanzo. More
