The "Godfather" wedding march? Listen up
By Alison Graham
ROME, Feb. 12 -- Monday night's concert program for The Filarmonic Orchestra
di Roma promised “young music for the young in all of us,” and it delivered.
The concert, entitled “Hollywood Blockbusters”, included scores from movie hits such as “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”, "Pirates of the Carribean” “The Gladiator”, “James Bond”, “The Godfather”, “Titanic” and “Apollo 13”.
“The music always sends a message to the people, young or [not so] young,” principal conductor Ezio Monti told the Matthew Online in an interview after the performance. “The
music can change the people. The music can change the country. The music
can change the world.”
Conductor
Francesco Lentini energetically led the orchestra in the performance, leaving the audience amazed.
Laurann Gallitto, a student at John Cabot University, said “the score from ‘The Godfather’ made me want to have that music at my wedding, although that’s probably inappropriate.” Katie Stinnette and Catherine Kunkle, also JCU students, said “The Godfather” was their top choice as well. “The violin solo was so moving,” Stinnette said afterwards, adding, “the concert just ended too soon, I didn’t want it to end."
Stinnette
wasn’t the only member of the audience left wanting more. After the
final number, a performance of the theme from “James Bond”, the
crowd cheered so loudly that Lentini performed a second rendition of
two pieces: the “Love Theme” from “The Godfather” and a medley
from “The Gladiator”.
After the last note was sounded, the crowd
went home feeling just a little happier, lighter, and younger.
